As many of you know well, I have been carefully considering the pros and cons of running for the 23rd Legislative District for the Nebraska Unicameral, and have done every part of diligence I know and have been advised to do.
I want to run for the Legislature for many reasons:
- A vow I made to Ron Raikes to finish the work; to be of service in my state; seeing possibilities for education, thriving communities, fixing the property tax reliance in Nebraska; environment and energy issues.
- It is the right time for me: I am retiring from UNL as of May; I have been blessed with health and opportunity and the state needs more independent voices
- I have held 12 listening sessions in groups totaling over 100 persons in all parts of my district—Ashland, Memphis, Ceresco, Wahoo, Rising City, David City, Brainard, and Schuyler
I have learned that people seek independence in their representative, want someone who can balance property taxation and school needs, and want smart and common sense solutions to the myriad challenges our state faces. I’ve also learned that people in my district do not think they are receiving the kind of representation that they need. I can work in a nonpartisan way; I can be effective in supporting initiatives that will help rural communities.
I am prepared to do what it takes for this district and am organizing at every level. No fish fry shall go unattended.
I’m ready to make a real difference for my neighbors.
